How it works

Home-Visit Physiotherapy in Birmingham

Every appointment with Havoheal Physiotherapy takes place at your home, lasts 45 minutes and costs a fixed £75. This page explains how an at-home appointment works, what the time is used for, and how to prepare.

How a 45-minute home visit usually runs

No two appointments are identical, because no two people are in the same situation. That said, most follow a similar shape.

  • We arrive at the time you booked

A physiotherapy professional travels to the address you gave us. The access notes you added when booking — a buzzer code, which entrance to use, where to park — mean the visit starts on time rather than with a phone call from your doorstep.

  • Talking through what you have noticed

The visit starts with a conversation: what you have noticed, when it started, what makes it better or worse, and what you would most like to get back to doing.

  • A movement assessment where appropriate

Where it is relevant, we look at how the affected area moves — and because we are in your home, we can look at the actual stairs, chair or worktop involved rather than a description of them. Nothing happens without your agreement.

  • Discussing options and next steps

We talk through options that may suit your circumstances, using the space and equipment you already have. If another service is a better fit, we will say so.

We do not promise a particular outcome, and nothing on this website should be read as a guarantee of recovery. What we can offer is unhurried time in a familiar setting, a careful conversation and practical, honest guidance.

What we work on

At-home physiotherapy support

These describe the kinds of visit people book. They are descriptions of how the time is used — not diagnoses, and not treatment guarantees.

  • Musculoskeletal physiotherapy

Appointments for muscle, joint and soft tissue concerns, delivered in your own home.

A 45-minute visit set aside to talk through your symptoms, look at how the affected area moves, and discuss options that may be appropriate for you. Any next steps are agreed with you rather than assumed.

    What typically happens

    • Discussion of your symptoms and how they affect daily life
    • A physical movement assessment where appropriate
    • A conversation about options that may suit your situation
    • Written or verbal guidance you can keep
  • Mobility support

Support for people who find walking, standing, bending or daily movement difficult — without having to travel anywhere.

Being seen at home means we can look at the movements you find hardest where they actually happen: your stairs, your chair, your doorstep. We discuss practical adjustments, pacing and activity ideas that fit your real surroundings.

    What typically happens

    • Review of the movements you find most difficult, in the place you do them
    • Discussion of pacing and daily activity
    • Ideas for gradual, self-managed progress
    • Signposting to other services where that is more appropriate
  • Exercise and rehabilitation guidance

Guidance on exercise approaches and progression, tailored to the space and equipment you actually have.

We can look at exercises you already do, discuss technique, and talk through how a programme might be structured using what is available where you live. Everything is discussed as guidance, not as a guaranteed result.

    What typically happens

    • Review of any exercises you are already doing
    • Discussion of technique and progression
    • Practical suggestions that fit your home setting
    • Notes to help you remember what was discussed
  • Postural and movement assessment

A structured look at posture and movement patterns in the setting where they occur.

Particularly useful if you work from home or spend long periods in one position. Being in your own environment means we can look at your actual desk, chair or workspace rather than describing it from memory.

    What typically happens

    • Observation of posture and movement patterns
    • A look at your real workspace or daily setup
    • Suggestions for changes you can make straight away
    • Time to ask questions about what you have noticed yourself
  • General aches and movement concerns

For everyday aches, stiffness or movement changes you would like to talk through, in a familiar setting.

Not every concern needs a label. If something does not feel right, a 45-minute visit gives you unhurried time to describe it properly and discuss sensible next steps — without a waiting room.

    What typically happens

    • Unhurried time to describe what you are noticing
    • A movement assessment where it is appropriate
    • Discussion of general self-management options
    • Clear signposting if another service is a better fit

Getting ready

Preparing for your home visit

Very little is needed, but a few minutes of preparation makes the 45 minutes go further.

  • Clear a space large enough to move around in, and have a firm chair available.
  • Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move, and that gives access to the area you want to discuss.
  • Think in advance about when your symptoms started and what makes them better or worse.
  • Note down the activities you are finding difficult and what you would like to get back to.
  • Add parking and access notes when you book — a buzzer code, a side entrance, or a dog we should know about.
  • Let us know in advance if a family member, friend or carer will be with you.
